Gunnell, Alice Petersen, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on June 14, 2010 at the age of 84. Alice is survived by her husband, Grant and three children, Gordon (Susan), Laura Phillips (Dale) and Grant Jr. (Tamaki); 11 grandchildren & 20 great grandchildren. She leaves 4 brothers, Phil (Kathleen), David (Joan), Nolan (Suzanne) and Stephen (Joyce). Alice was born in Ferron, Emery County, Utah on March 26, 1926, 5th of 10 children to Wilford C. and Lillian Foote Petersen. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Lenna Merrill, Zelona Giauque, Lillie Belle Petersen and two brothers, Marvin and Warren Petersen. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in all callings extended to her. She served in presidencies of the Relief Society, Primary and Young Women's as well as a teacher in each of these organizations. She served in the Nigeria Aba mission, West Africa as a missionary couple with her husband for 14 months at which time they accepted a call to extend their mission for an additional 24 months as President of the Ghana Accra mission. In 2003, she and her husband were called to preside over the Accra Guana Temple as president and matron of that temple for 3 years. President Gordon B. Hinckley extended both of these callings to the Gunnell's. Currently, she and her husband are serving as missionaries in the Kimball East Stake over the Addiction Recovery Program, as home teachers and as coordinators in the sealing office of the Arizona Temple. Alice was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was devoted to her husband and posterity. The goodness of her life will be celebrated with a service on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Kimball East Stake Center, 4640 East Holmes Avenue, with a viewing one hour before. A viewing will also be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 6:30-8:00 PM at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Temple Patron Assistance Fund. Meldrum Mortuary handled the arrangements.
